Another polio virus case reported in Bannu

A new case of poliovirus infection has emerged in the Ghora Bakka Khel union council of Bannu district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising the total number of cases reported in Pakistan this year to three.

The most recent case concerns a one-and-a-half-year-old girl who has been left with paralysis due to the virus, as confirmed by authorities.

All three cases reported so far have affected children residing in Bannu district, and once again, environmental samples from the district have indicated the presence of the poliovirus.

Up to this point, a total of 34 environmental samples in Pakistan have tested positive for poliovirus.

Earlier this week, the government initiated a seven-day nationwide campaign to combat polio, aiming to administer the anti-polio vaccine, along with an additional dose of vitamin A, to over 40 million children.
