The matter was brought before the commission, which, after hearing a petition filed by Jalal Khan, a Member of the Provincial Assembly from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), ordered a suspension of the by-election proceedings.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the petitioner, Murad Saeed has yet to take the oath as a senator. Under the Constitution, an individual is formally recognised as a member of the Senate only after taking the oath. On this basis, the petition questioned the legal standing of declaring the seat vacant and proceeding with a by-election.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ECP has directed that no further steps be taken in the electoral process until the matter is fully clarified from a legal and constitutional standpoint. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for May 7.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a result of the stay order, the by-election scheduled for April 23 has been temporarily suspended.
