Polio vaccination drive targets 1.9million children in Khyber District

LANDIKOTAL: Polio vaccination campaign Fractional Injectable Polio Vaccination (FIPV) has commenced across various regions of Khyber district, with the aim of bolstering the immunity of children and safeguarding them against a recently detected environmental sample of poliovirus in the Naray Khwar area of Peshawar, adjacent to Khyber district. Polio officials announced the launch of this critical initiative on Sunday.

The specialised anti-polio campaign kicked off on August 15 and is slated to run until August 21. The campaign’s focus is on vaccinating children under the age of 5 years over the course of the week.

During the ongoing campaign, more than 1.9 million children residing in Khyber district are set to receive vaccinations. For this purpose, a comprehensive network of 965 field polio teams has been established, responsible for conducting door-to-door visits across the entire district. In preparation for the campaign, polio staff members underwent specialized training to ensure the effectiveness of the drive.

This concerted effort to inoculate children against poliovirus underscores the commitment of Khyber district’s authorities and healthcare personnel to eliminate this preventable disease. By proactively addressing potential sources of infection, the district aims to protect its youngest residents and contribute to the broader objective of eradicating polio from the region.
