Gold Standard Service award for Peshawar BRT

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) received  Gold Standard Service award from Technical Committee of the BRT Standards for providing environment-friendly services .

The technical committee comprised of globally renowned experts that evaluated world-class BRT based on international best practices, says a statement.

The award was given to KP Minister for Higher Education Kamran Khan Bangash in a ceremony at the CM House.

Speaking on the occasion , Bangash said it was a matter of honour for Peshawar that the BRT had achieved the world’s highest ranking in BRT service.

He added that the award was result of BRT ‘s passenger-oriented services, bus routes based on passengers’ needs, adopting clean technology for buses, improving safety, promoting non-motorised traffic and utilisation of maximum resources to facilitate the public at large.

Dr. Walter Hook, a member of the technical committee of the BRT Standards, stated that Peshawar BRT was consistent in almost all respects in international best practices.

It merits a mention here that  Peshawar BRT was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Aug 13, 2020, with the aim to revolutionise the public transport system.

Peshawar Zalmai beats Islamabad United

Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United by 10 runs after a thrilling contest. The winning team has reached the third position in the points table by gaining ten points thanks to five victories in the tournament.

Islamabad United needed 207 runs in the allotted 20 overs to win, but despite Azam Khan’s 85 off 45 balls and Rahmanullah Garbaz’s smoky 46 off 19 balls, Islamabad United took 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. 196 runs for the loss of.

In pursuit of the target, Islamabad United opener Rehmanullah Garbaz gave Islamabad United an aggressive start by playing an excellent innings of 46 off 19 balls with a strike rate of 242 runs with the help of five sixes and three fours. He shared a 54-run partnership with Mubasir Khan.

Salman Irshad of Peshawar Zalmi bowled brilliantly and showed the way to the pavilion to three players for 29 runs. Captain Wahab Riaz took two wickets.

In the match played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, Peshawar Zalmi batted first and scored 206 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs thanks to an aggressive half century by Muhammad Haris. Young opener Mohammad Haris played an electrifying innings of 70 off 32 balls. His innings included five sixes and seven fours.

All-rounder Shoaib Malik (38) and Yasir Khan (35) stood out. Faheem Ashraf got three wickets while Waqas Maqsood got two wickets

Gwadar: Customs foils bid to smuggle large quantity of ice & opium

Balochistan  customs seized a large quantity of ice and opium in a raid in Gwadar.

According to customs officials, Gwadar Customs foiled drug trafficking in the coastal city of Ormara and Jwani.

During  check ing in Ormara, drugs in the hidden compartments of a vehicle were recovered and seized. The drugs seized included 7.5 kg of  ice. Whereas  255 kg of opium was also recovered from Jwani.

According to customs officials, the value of the seized drugs in the global market is about Rs 300 million. Further investigations into the drug smuggling are underway.
