Arshad Nadeem Secures Spot in Javelin Final at Asian Athletics Championship

Pakistan’s celebrated javelin thrower and Olympian, Arshad Nadeem, has successfully advanced to the final round of the javelin event at the ongoing Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea.

According to the details, Arshad delivered an exceptional performance during the qualifying round by throwing a remarkable distance of 86.34 meters on his very first attempt. In comparison, Indian athlete Yash managed a throw of 76.67 meters on his opening attempt.

The javelin final is scheduled for May 31, where Arshad Nadeem will once again carry the nation’s hopes for clinching a major title on the continental stage.

Olympic Glory and National Recognition
Arshad Nadeem has become a household name in Pakistan following his groundbreaking performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he recorded a javelin throw exceeding 90 meters—a feat that ranked as the sixth-longest throw in the world.

In recognition of his historic achievement, Arshad was awarded the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, one of the highest civilian honors in Pakistan. His return home was met with massive public celebrations and widespread national pride.

Unfulfilled Promises from Private Sector
Following his Olympic success, both the federal and provincial governments presented him with monetary awards, acknowledging his contribution to sports and national pride. However, in a recent interview, Arshad disclosed that while some governmental rewards were delivered, several commitments made by private companies remain unfulfilled.

Despite these setbacks, Arshad Nadeem remains focused on his athletic goals and is determined to bring further glory to Pakistan in the upcoming final.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, has issued strict directives to enhance security arrangements along the CPEC Yarik–Hakla Motorway, aiming to ensure safe, smooth, and comfortable travel for the public.

According to the KP Police spokesperson, following the IG’s instructions, a high-level meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Ismail Khan, Syed Ashfaq Anwar. The meeting was attended by District Police Officer Sahibzada Sajjad, sub-division SPs, and motorway officials.

Key decisions were made to increase police patrolling, establish joint check posts, and prevent incidents such as unauthorized vehicle movements, entry of unauthorized individuals, and theft of iron from motorway fences.

The strategy also includes repair of damaged fencing, protection against stray animals on the road, and strict control over restricted vehicles.

IG Zulfiqar Hameed emphasized that no negligence would be tolerated in ensuring the safety of travelers, and that violators would face strict legal consequences. In one such action, police registered a case under Sections 279 and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code against a motorcyclist and seized the motorcycle for traffic violations.

RPO Ashfaq Anwar stated that under the special directives of the IG, collaborative efforts with motorway police are being implemented to enhance travel services and significantly reduce accidents.

Rainstorms claim 8 lives in KP as PDMA issues emergency alert

PDMA has released a comprehensive report highlighting human and infrastructural losses due to heavy rains, thunderstorms, hail, and lightning across KP since May 27.

According to the report, 8 people have lost their lives (including 5 men, 2 women, and 1 child), while 21 others (10 men, 5 women, 6 children) sustained injuries.

A total of 25 houses were damaged, including one fully destroyed. Affected districts include Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Shangla, Swat, Torghar, Mohmand, Mansehra, and Haripur.

PDMA has instructed local administrations to provide immediate relief and ensure medical care for the injured. Rainfall is expected to continue until May 31, and an alert has been issued to all districts.

Year of Tirich Mir 2025-26

KP Declares 2025–26 ‘Year of Tirich Mir’, Waives Climbing Royalties for Two Years

To mark the platinum jubilee of the first successful ascent of Tirich Mir in 1950, the KP Tourism Authority officially launched “Year of Tirich Mir 2025-26” with a grand event at Serena Islamabad.

Advisor to KP Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, announced that royalty fees for climbers will be waived for the next two years. He shared that 70 climbers would receive full support from the provincial government, and a documentary would be produced to chronicle the journey.

The event featured dignitaries including MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur and Norway’s Deputy Head of Mission Thomas Dahr, who praised KP’s efforts in celebrating this historic mountain, first climbed by Norwegians. MoUs were signed with Mountain Wilderness International, which will provide pre-expedition training.

KP Assembly concludes ender-Responsive Budgeting session with UN support

A three-day awareness session on Gender-Responsive Budgeting (GRB) concluded at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, jointly organized by UN Women Pakistan, UNDP, and the European Union. The session saw the special participation of Speaker KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati, Deputy Speaker Suraiya Bibi, and other MPAs.

In her address, Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, Suraiya Bibi, lauded the efforts of UN Women, UNDP Pakistan, the Finance Department, and P&D. She emphasized the importance of the session in empowering women lawmakers by equipping them with essential knowledge about budget-making processes, provincial revenue and expenditure systems, PC-1/2, and the NFC Award.

Speaker Babar Saleem Swati appreciated the efforts of UN Women and UNDP in promoting equality and assisting in critical legislation, including domestic violence bills, inheritance rights, labor laws, and women’s empowerment policies in KP.

Certificates of appreciation were distributed among MPAs and participants. UN agencies also acknowledged the contributions of Provincial Assembly’s Special Secretary Administration Syed Waqar Shah and his team for their tireless work.

Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), interacted with participants of ‘Hilal Talks’ at the Army Auditorium today. Spanning interactive sessions and group discussions on a range of international, regional and national issues, Hilal Talks are intended to act as a forum for perspective sharing among members of Pakistan’s academic community.

As an acknowledgment of the critical role that academia plays in national progress, through innovation, research and in influencing perceptions, the forum brought together around 1800 members of the academic community, comprising Vice Chancellors, Heads of Departments, senior faculty members, principals and students from institutions across Pakistan; majority of whom participated in the Talks through virtual mediums. Special emphasis was on participation from southern districts in Balochistan, AJK and GB.

While addressing the participants, the COAS encouraged the academia to play proactive role in promoting national narrative of harmony, stability, peace and progress. Emphasizing the need for critical thinking and imperatives of knowledge-driven economies, the COAS stated that our academic institutions must serve as centers for critical thinking, reasoning and organic innovative solutions for Pakistan’s progress.

The COAS acknowledged the challenges being faced by higher education including in the field of research, and reiterated Army’s commitment in supporting Government’s initiatives to improve academic environment and promote innovative research.

After a candid Q&A session, participants appreciated the institution of ‘Hilal Talks’ and expressed confidence that such initiatives would significantly contribute in fostering an atmosphere for sharing ideas, open up avenues for research and innovation, and gradually strengthen national cohesion through sustained interaction.
