MoU Signed Between KP Prisons & University of Peshawar

The KP Prisons Department and the Department of Criminology at the University of Peshawar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance mutual cooperation.

The MoU was formally signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Johar Ali and IG Prisons KP Mr. Muhammad Usman Mehsud.

The ceremony was attended by DIG (HQ) Ms. Halima, DIG RPO Peshawar Sahibzada Muhammad Qaiser, DIG (Judicial & Security) Muhammad Amin Shoaib, Dr. Basharat Hussain (Chair, Criminology), Dr. Muhammad Abrar (Assistant Professor), and Dr. Joria Raza (Lecturer).

Under this MoU, certificate, diploma, and refresher training courses will be conducted for prison staff. The training system of Haripur’s Prison Training Academy will also be reviewed. Criminology students will be given research opportunities in prisons.

This step marks the beginning of a new era in research, professional training, and prison reforms.

Tribal Jirga Meets Governor KP

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi met with a tribal jirga led by former MNA Hameedullah Jan at the Governor House in Peshawar.

The tribal elders highlighted the growing problems and unrest in merged districts post-merger and expressed strong reservations over the imposition of taxes, particularly the 10% tax on industry, which they termed oppressive.

They also raised concerns over the non-payment of compensation to victims of military operations in Bara and other tribal areas.

Governor Kundi stated that all promises made to tribal people post-merger must be fully implemented. He added that he is advocating for tribal communities at the federal level and has consistently called for an end to their deprivations.

He assured that suggestions from local elders will be included in the steering committee for development in the former FATA areas, and that full respect will be given to local opinions. He emphasized the need for unity to resolve provincial issues and ensure peace and prosperity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Pakistan's biggest Shandur Polo Festival will be held from June 20. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has fixed the date of Shandur Polo Festival. Advisor to Tourism Zahid Chanzeb has directed to finalize all preparations for Shandur Polo Festival. Shandur Polo Festival will be held in Upper Chitral from June 20 to June 22, 2025. All preparations for Shandur Polo Festival will be finalized. All possible facilities will be provided to the tourists coming to the festival. Shandur Polo Festival will be successfully organized and awareness campaign will be launched from now. Teams from Chitral Lower and Chitral Upper will compete with teams from Gilgit-Baltistan in the festival. Shandur Polo Festival will be organized in collaboration with Pakistan Army, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, District Administration Chitral Lower and Upper, Police and Chitral Scouts.

Shandur Polo Festival Kicks Off

The Shandur Polo Festival officially commenced with the support of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Authority, Pakistan Army, and Chitral Scouts. The opening ceremony was graced by Special Advisor on Information Barrister Saif and Minister for Sports Fakhar Jahan.

Barrister Saif stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a peaceful province rich in tourism potential. He emphasized that the province is organizing an international-standard festival and the government is taking exceptional steps to promote tourism.

The festival is being supported by the district administration of Upper and Lower Chitral along with the police. On the opening day, a match was played between the teams of Laspur (Chitral) and Ghizer (Gilgit-Baltistan), with Laspur winning 6–3.

Secretary Tourism Bakhtiar Khan, Commissioner Malakand Abid Wazir, and DG Tourism Authority Habibullah Arif also attended the event.
