Peshawar Old City Areas Sealed Amid Ashura Security Measures

PESHAWAR: With the arrival of Muharram, strict security arrangements have been implemented in various areas of Peshawar due to security concerns.

Inner-city localities including Kohati Bazaar, Qissa Khwani, Kocha Risaldar, and other sensitive spots have been completely sealed.

According to the administration, additional police forces have been deployed to ensure peace during Muharram processions and majalis. Surveillance is being conducted through CCTV cameras, and entry and exit points at various locations have been closed.

While partial road closures are causing inconvenience to the public, the district administration has advised citizens to use alternate routes and cooperate to help ensure a peaceful observance of the holy month.

In a thrilling pre-quarterfinal match of the All Pakistan Saeed Khan Memorial Football Tournament, New Afghan DI Khan defeated DFA Bannu on penalty kicks to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

Today’s quarterfinal clash will feature New Afghan DI Khan facing off against POF Wah.

The match took place at Kunj Football Stadium under the supervision of organizers Niaz Khan Jadoon, Major Zulfiqar, Malik Ejaz Goga, Sadaqat Khan Jadoon, Khanwez Kala Khan, DFA President Haji Naeem Baig, and his team.

Guest of Honor was Muhammad Asif, while Chief Guest was Fawad Ghani Sarraf, MD of Farasat Jewelers and President of KP Sarafa Association.

In the first half, DFA Bannu’s player Sajjad gave his team an early lead. However, a fierce battle unfolded in the second half, with both teams leveling the match at 2-2 by the final whistle.

Ultimately, New Afghan DI Khan triumphed in the penalty shootout and progressed to the quarterfinals.

A one-month short course in Canva designing, jointly organized by the District Administration and District Youth Office-Dir Upper, concluded successfully at the E-Tech Institute, Rehan Kot, Dir Upper. The training was conducted under the esteemed patronage of Dr. Noman Mujahid, Director of the Directorate of Youth Affairs, and Mr. Naveed Akbar, Deputy Commissioner of Dir Upper.

The closing ceremony, held today, was graced by several distinguished guests, including Mr. Miraj Gul (District Planning Officer, Dir Upper), Mr. Shehzad Tariq (District Youth Officer), Mr. Sajjad Khan Tareen (CEO, E-Tech Institute), and Mr. Awais Hashmi (Managing Director), along with respected members of the local community.

Over 100 students who completed the comprehensive course received certificates and diplomas during the ceremony. In his address, Mr. Miraj Gul stressed the importance of modern sciences and the acquisition of technical and professional skills, urging students to remain focused on education and actively pursue vocational training to improve their employability in today’s competitive job market.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shehzad Tariq underlined the value of integrating technical skills with traditional education. He highlighted that such training equips students with practical knowledge and expressed appreciation for the guests’ support by presenting them with honorary shields. He further announced that similar short courses will be held across every tehsil in Dir Upper to expand access to employment-oriented training for the youth.

The students thanked the District Youth Office and District Administration for organizing the training and strongly advocated for the continuation of such programs, recognizing their role in enhancing skill sets and career opportunities.

This initiative represents a meaningful stride in empowering the youth of Dir Upper, contributing not only to individual growth but also to the broader socio-economic development of the region.

KP Governor visits grieving family of Swat tragedy victims in Mardan

MARDAN: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi visited Rustam area in District Mardan to meet the bereaved family affected by the tragic Swat river incident.

The Governor reached the residence of the victims who drowned in the Swat River and expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the heartbreaking incident.

During the visit, Governor Kundi met the relatives of the deceased and conveyed heartfelt sympathies, stating that the entire nation is mourning the loss caused by the Swat tragedy.

While speaking to the media, Faisal Karim Kundi remarked that the painful Swat tragedy has saddened the whole nation and that the bereaved family is not alone in their grief.

He prayed for patience and strength for the affected family and emphasized that the negligence of the provincial government in this incident has been witnessed by the entire country.

Governor Kundi criticized the provincial administration, stating that the tragic drowning incident raises serious concerns about tourism safety measures in the province.

He also demanded an impartial inquiry into the tragedy to determine those responsible.

The Governor revealed that he has recommended to Prime Minister and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that the federal government should provide financial assistance to the victim families and award civil honors to the brave individuals who helped save lives during the incident.
