An Interfaith Harmony Conference was organized by the Pakistan Army in Kohat to promote lasting peace Kurram district . The event was attended by GOC 9 Division and renowned religious scholar Allama Dr. Mufti Raghib Hussain Naeemi as chief guests. Religious scholars, civil administration officials, tribal elders, students, and more than 120 notable participants were present at the conference.
Scholars from both Sunni and Shia sects emphasized the importance of unity, peace, tolerance, forgiveness, and love for the progress and stability of Pakistan.
In his address, the GOC lauded the role of tribal elders in maintaining peace in Kurram and underscored the need to uphold brotherhood and peace agreements for long-term stability. The Commissioner of Kohat highlighted the importance of dismantling bunkers, surrendering illegal weapons, and implementing the Kohat Peace Accord in letter and spirit.
At the conclusion, the participants, along with the scholars, issued a joint “Declaration on Inter-Sectarian Harmony”, reaffirming their commitment to ensuring harmony, unity, and peace in Kurram. The declaration stressed that Islam teaches love, fraternity, and respect, and that turning differences of opinion into enmity goes against Islamic principles.
It further stated that condemning extremism and unrest is a collective duty of all Muslims, while supporting state institutions in maintaining peace is a religious obligation. The declaration urged citizens to respect the peace agreement, surrender illegal weapons, dismantle defensive posts, and support legal action against miscreants. It also called for resisting rumors and online hate campaigns by promoting tolerance and understanding.
Participants praised the Pakistan Army for organizing the conference and expressed hope that this initiative would serve as a milestone in establishing sustainable peace in the region.
