KP Government Introduces Smart Waste Management Framework for Cleaner and Healthier Cities

Peshawar: In a significant move to enhance cleanliness and waste management across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approved the “Smart Waste Management Framework.” The initiative aims to ensure a clean and healthy environment for citizens by utilizing modern technology and efficient tracking mechanisms.

A formal directive has been issued from the CM Secretariat to the Chief Secretary, instructing the implementation of this framework. Under this plan, the activities of all Water and Sanitation Services Companies and Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) will be digitally monitored to improve operational efficiency and resource utilization. A key component of this initiative is the launch of the “Pak Saaf App,” which will enable real-time tracking of garbage collection across the province.

To strengthen the waste management system, designated garbage collection points will be established in urban areas, with plans for gradual expansion and enhanced monitoring. In rural areas, community-based waste collection systems, mobile waste units, and public engagement programs will be introduced.

The implementation will follow a phased approach under the Local Government Department. The first phase includes waste generation analysis and infrastructure mapping, the second phase focuses on app development and pilot projects, while the third phase ensures province-wide adoption of the tracking system. A robust grievance redressal mechanism will also be established to ensure transparency and efficiency. All relevant authorities have been instructed to submit an actionable plan with timelines for execution.
