KP Declares 2025–26 ‘Year of Tirich Mir’, Waives Climbing Royalties for Two Years

To mark the platinum jubilee of the first successful ascent of Tirich Mir in 1950, the KP Tourism Authority officially launched “Year of Tirich Mir 2025-26” with a grand event at Serena Islamabad.

Advisor to KP Finance, Muzzammil Aslam, announced that royalty fees for climbers will be waived for the next two years. He shared that 70 climbers would receive full support from the provincial government, and a documentary would be produced to chronicle the journey.

The event featured dignitaries including MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur and Norway’s Deputy Head of Mission Thomas Dahr, who praised KP’s efforts in celebrating this historic mountain, first climbed by Norwegians. MoUs were signed with Mountain Wilderness International, which will provide pre-expedition training.

Veteran Pakistani climbers from 1991 shared emotional accounts of their ascent with Japanese partners.
