KP Caretaker CM urges timely completion of Hydel power projects

PESHAWAR: Caretaker Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Azam Khan, has emphasized the need for the prompt and efficient completion of hydel power projects in the province. He made this call during the 17th meeting of the Hydel Development Fund Board, where he underscored the importance of expediting ongoing hydropower initiatives, citing their priority status in the provincial government’s agenda.

The meeting, attended by key cabinet members, the chief secretary, additional chief secretary, and other relevant authorities, resulted in conditional approval for funding energy projects during the financial year 2023-24.

Chief Minister Azam Khan urged the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to operationalize the Provincial Transmission and Dispatch Company. He commended the establishment of this company by the provincial government, recognizing that it would reduce the province’s reliance on Wapda (Water and Power Development Authority).

Azam Khan also directed the authorities to swiftly formulate a strategy to put into operation the hydropower plants under the Provincial Energy Development Organization (PEDO). He emphasized that, since these projects were funded with the resources of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, their benefits should be delivered to the public without any delay.

He further highlighted that enabling these power plants would not only contribute to alleviating the energy crisis in the province but also enhance the region’s revenue.

The caretaker government’s commitment to completing and activating hydel power projects underscores its dedication to addressing energy needs and promoting sustainable development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
