Buner: World Breastfeeding Month was formally launched in Buner, where the District Health Department, in collaboration with UNICEF, organized an awareness walk and seminar to highlight the importance of breastfeeding, improve newborn nutrition, and promote a healthier future for children.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Dr Hira Ahsan, Dr Nisar Khan, health officials, religious scholars, journalists, personnel from Rescue 1122, social activists, and members of the public. Participants took part in an awareness walk carrying banners and placards highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding.

Addressing the seminar, speakers said that breast milk is the safest and most complete source of nutrition for newborns, protecting them from various diseases while supporting their physical and mental development. Mothers were urged to initiate breastfeeding immediately after birth and to exclusively breastfeed their infants for the first six months.

Assistant Commissioner Dr Hira Ahsan said that healthy children are the foundation of a healthy society. District Health Officer Dr Nisar Khan added that awareness activities would continue throughout World Breastfeeding Month across the district to spread this important public health message.

Health experts noted that promoting breastfeeding can significantly improve child health outcomes and reduce the risk of various illnesses later in life.
