The Peshawar Cantonment Board has officially launched its 16th Annual Spring and Rose Flower Show at Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed Park on Khyber Road. The inauguration ceremony was held on April 14, 2025, featuring Corps Commander Peshawar as the chief guest, alongside Station Commander Brig. Umar Saeed Afridi and Cantonment Executive Officer Mr. Chaudhry Babar Hussain.
Organized under the Military Lands and Cantonments Department, this nationwide initiative aims to promote appreciation for nature, community engagement, and public recreation through floral exhibitions.
Public Participation and Festive Vibes
The festival, which runs from April 15 to 18, showcases over 200 floral varieties, bringing together a diverse array of visitors and participants. Over 70 competitors from institutions such as CMH, FC Fort Bala Hisar, PAF Base, Air Headquarters, University of Agriculture, Islamia College & University, Bacha Khan College, Umeed Special Education School, and Ordnance 75 participated enthusiastically.
Special thanks were extended to those institutions participating for the first time, and awards were distributed to the winners of the floral stall competitions. Cash prizes and certificates were presented, and the community was encouraged to green their surroundings.
Cultural, Educational, and Artistic Highlights
The festival featured several contests, including cut flower competitions for women and painting/sketching contests for children. Notably, Ms. Mishal Khan, a young local woman, secured first place in the floral category, while students from Government Girls High School Islamia Collegiate won in the painting competition.
Children from Cantt Public Schools presented a charming tableau, and students from Umeed Special Education System delivered vibrant cultural performances that captivated the audience.
Community Collaboration and Appreciation
Cantonment Executive Officer Chaudhry Babar Hussain praised the relentless efforts of Senior Horticulturist Mr. Mehr Gul Wazir and his team of gardeners, who began preparations months in advance. Special acknowledgments were also made to Serena Hotel Peshawar, Pak Bakers, Marshal Town Gulberg Heights, Sheeraz Ronaq, Bank Al Habib Ltd., DHA Peshawar, and Maxim Advertisers for their valuable support.
The exhibition attracted not only the general public but also a large number of civil and military officers. The festival is recognized as a cultural gift for the people of Peshawar, particularly Cantt residents, celebrating the city’s connection to nature and springtime beauty.
Legacy of Nature and Color
The Peshawar Cantonment Board hosts two major annual exhibitions: the Chrysanthemum Show in December and the Spring Flower Festival in April. These exhibitions draw flower enthusiasts and families from across the city, transforming Cantt streets and parks with colorful floral decorations, embodying the spirit of nature and heritage.
