The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) has approved the import of 3 million metric tonnes of wheat. The subsidy on flour, sugar, rice and pulses at utility stores will continue for two more weeks. The decision has been made.
The meeting of the Economic Co-ordination Committee was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance Muftah Ismail.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, the ECC has approved the import of 3 million metric tonnes of wheat, 2 million metric tonnes of wheat at the government level and 1 million tonnes of wheat will be procured through international tenders. The ECC has also asked the provinces to estimate their wheat requirements.
The meeting of the Economic Co-ordination Committee also approved the extension of construction of two projects of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, the purpose of which is to ensure a loan of 383 million from China.
The ECC also approved the abolition of 2% additional customs duty on palm oil imports. Final approval for abolition of duty on palm oil imports will be sought from the Federal Cabinet.
According to the announcement, a supplementary grant of Rs 62.27 billion was also approved for the Ministry of Energy and a supplementary grant of Rs 107.8 million for law and order.
