Pakistan has made the decision to send its cricket team to India for the 50-over World Cup scheduled to be held in October and November this year.
In a statement released by the Foreign Office (FO) on Sunday, it was asserted that Pakistan has consistently advocated for keeping sports separate from politics. Therefore, the country has chosen to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.
In its statement, the FO expressed that Pakistan authorities continue to hold “deep concerns” regarding the security of their cricket team while in India.
“We are communicating these concerns to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Indian authorities, and we expect that the safety and security of the Pakistan cricket team will be fully ensured during their visit to India,” the statement stated.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized that Pakistan believes that the current state of bilateral relations with India should not obstruct the fulfillment of its international sports-related commitments.
Pakistan’s decision to send its cricket team to India demonstrates its constructive and responsible approach compared to India’s unyielding stance, as the latter had declined to send its cricket team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup.
