Polio vaccination drive commences across KP

PESHAWAR: In a determined effort to protect children from the crippling effects of polio, a comprehensive anti-polio campaign has been initiated across 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Collaborating with the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), health authorities aim to immunize an astonishing 2 million children against this debilitating disease.

The ambitious campaign spans critical areas including Peshawar, Bannu, Charsadda, Hangu, Khyber, and Kohat, where 6,947 dedicated teams have been deployed. Each team is entrusted with the vital task of delivering life-saving polio drops directly to homes and communities.

Overseeing the monumental undertaking are 1,598 area in-charges, ensuring smooth execution and diligent monitoring of the campaign’s progress.

More than 18,000 vigilant police officers have been strategically positioned to safeguard the dedicated polio vaccination teams. The paramount concern for the safety and success of the drive has prompted this robust security deployment.

Officials at the Anti-Polio Emergency Center have emphasised the urgency of this initiative, as two polio cases were already reported in Bannu earlier in the year. Consequently, the campaign focuses on these high-risk areas, demonstrating the dedication and commitment of health workers and authorities to eradicate polio from the region.
