Captain Qamar Abbas Shaheed
“I am tired but I have completed my mission; we have recaptured Lal Qila (Dir) from the terrorists”, this was the last telephonic conversation of the 28-years-old Captain Qamar Abbas Shaheed with his mother.
This son of the soil embraced shahadat while protecting the motherland against the terrorists in Lower Dir on May 12, 2009.
Captain Qamar was born in Siadu Sharif, Swat on May 30, 1981. He spent his adolescent years in Swat. The family moved to Rawalpindi in 1994, where Capt Qamar Abbas Shaheed went to a local Madrassah and became a Hafiz-e-Quran.
In the later years, he got admission in Telecommunication Engineering at University of Peshawar.
He had such a great desire to join Army that he decided to leave Peshawar University and joined PMA 111 Long Course. On passing out, he was posted to a famous Field Artillery Regiment. He performed with a lot of zeal and devotion while serving at one of the highest bait battlefields i.e., Siachin Glacier.
When the terrorists were wreaking havoc with lives of innocent civilians in KP, he was posted to district Dir (L).
Once there he led a daring operation against the terrorists and recaptured Lal Qila from the terrorists.
He had completed the assigned task on May 12, 2009, and two days later, just to expand the gains, this valiant son was carrying out a linkup operation when hit by a sniper bullet.
After shahadat, for his heroic actions during Operation Tor Tandar (Black Thunder Storm), Captain Qamar Abbas Shaheed was awarded Tamgha-e-Basalat (TBt) by the Government of Pakistan.
