KP continues to take lead, elects first-ever turban-clade Sikh Senator

KP continues to lead Pakistan in religious harmony as it elects first turban-clade Sikh Senator.  According to details, in a very positive and major development, Gurdeep Singh who hails from Swat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) becomes the first ever turban-clade Sikh member in the 74-year history of Pakistan to win Senate seat on ticket of the ruling party with a huge margin.

According to the results issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the candidate of PTI on minority seat, Gurdeep Singh received a 105 votes while his opponent Rajneet Singh from the Jamiat Ulema i Islam (JUI) got only 25 votes.

Many human rights organisation in India and the rest of the world have termed the victory of Gurdeep Singh a proof that Pakistan is among few countries moving towards a moderate society where the religious minorities exercise freedom and chance to take part in the decision making process.

Meanwhile, talking to Voice of KP, the first-ever turban-clade Sikh senator from KP said that the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan was to give complete social and political rights to the minorities of Pakistan and this is the reason that today he made history by making it to the upper house of Parliament.

Gurdeep Singh stated that he faced many challenges and issues during his political career but due to the vision of Imran Khan and support of the party, he won the elections. He elaborated that he will take forward the vision of late Soran Singh, who was killed by some unidentified assailants in his village.

While commenting on the development, a senior leader of Hindu Community in KP, Haroon Sarabdiyal who is also working as a civil society activist told VoKP that this initiative of the PM Imran Khan was a historical move.

He stated that Gurdeep Singh during his political career faced many issues and challenges but thanks to Imran Khan who trusted Gurdeep Singh and selected him to represent his people in the parliament.

Haroon further said that the historical win of Gurdeep Singh has ensured the political freedom of the minorities of Pakistan.
