Uncertainty among the ranks of opposition parties! A success of PTI government?

There is no doubt in the fact that after coming into power in July 2018, the Imran Khan government has been facing many serious challenges including dealing with drowned economy, mega corruption cases, across the board accountability and most importantly dealing with the big challenge of opposition parties within the parliament house and out of the parliament house.

However, many political experts and senior journalists who are observing the things with sharp eyes were of the view that beside many other issues, the Imran-Khan-led-government will not be able to resist to the unity of the opposition parties as almost all of them were calling Imran Khan’s government as a fake and selected instead of a genuine and elected one which came into power through rigging in the general elections of the year.

Many other were of the view that the economy and foreign policy of the country, due to the failed policies of the past governments, were badly affected and the PTI-led government will never be able to take the country out of such crisis. However, the competent policies and commitment of Imran Khan not only put the country on the right track, but also created uncertainty among the ranks of opposition parties which led to the success of ruling party within and outside the Parliament House.

The first success for the Imran Khan government was the senate elections where the opposition parties campaigned to replace the honourable Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and elect a person of their own choice in a move to pressurise the government but the results were absolutely wonderful as despite the majority in the house, the opposition parties were defeated in the Senate.

In the leadership of Jamiat Ulema e Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, all the opposition parties including PPP and PML-N in October 2019 pulled their socks and formed a formal alliance against the PTI government in shape of Rehbar Committee in order to overturn the incumbent government and pave way for the fresh elections.

It was the time when all the opposition parties of the country decided to launch country wide protests against Imran Khan and topple his government, but the results of Senate elections had created a huge wave of unending doubts among the quarters of opposition and this was the reason that Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman had to take a solo flight and therefore launched the Azaadi March against the government without the support of two major opposition parties PPP and PML-N.

Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, on many occasions, has claimed that the lack of unity among the opposition parties was a success of the government and this was the reason that Maulana had to blame PPP and PML-N for this success of the government. Further more on the matter of extension of Army Chief, Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman once again tried to convince PPP and PML-N to oppose the move of the tenure extension of the Army Chief but he was disappointed once again after both the parties backed PTI in this most important legislation which further cracked the opposition parties.

Meanwhile, the PPP and PML-N leadership have also some reservations over the attitude of Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman, and have been asking him to provide the details of his meetings with Chaudhry brother during the Azaadi March in October 2019 and this was the reason that the opposition-formed Rehbar Committee, against the government, was dissolved and three parties including PPP, PML-N and ANP were delisted from the committee.

While commenting on the whole scenario, Usman Khan a senior journalist who has been covering all these developments said that cracks in opposition parties was nothing more than a success for the ruling party within and outside the Parliament House.

He revealed that Maulana Fazl was in no mode to trust the PPP and PML-N anymore because they deceived him on multiple occasions and this was the reason that Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman has now been observed calling himself as a supporter of the government.

He further added that Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman tried frequently to unite the opposition parties against the government, but the corruption cases against the opposition leadership was a hurdle in the way of unity, which directly led to the huge success of the regime of Imran Khan.
