The Pakistan Army has started rescue and relief operation in Murree as the city declared calamity-hit after 21 tourists stranded in snow died.
The Army has launched a rescue operation and started evacuating tourists besides a control division established at Murree Division and rescue centres have been set up at APS and Army School of Logistics Kuldana.
Heavy machinery from Murree Army Engineers Division and the FWO are working relentlessly to assist the people who are struck.
According to ISPR press release the troops are out in the field and where machinery can’t reach, troops have been moved for clearing traffic and opening up roads. The Army troops are also distributing cooked food and petrol to people and all camps have been provided with heating arrangements.
Meanwhile earlier Murree was declared calamity-hit on Saturday after at least 21 people froze to death in cars stranded in snow. According to a list issued by Rescue 1122, 21 people died, including nine children. The deceased include an assistant sub-inspector of Islamabad police and seven members of his family
Around 1,000 cars were stuck on the hill station after which entry of cars into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Galiyat was banned by the government.
